12" x 17"
Ash Alexander grew up between Berkeley, CA and Bangkok. She is now based in Los Angeles completeing her B.A. at Art Center College of Design and Imaging. Alexander’s personal work often explores her mixed identity and transnational upbringing. Once a year, she travels to Thailand to see her mother and reconnect with her community there. Each visit she saves one evening to spend a night at her friend’s painting studio on the outskirts of Bankok (“Khrunthep”). As part of this tradition, they wake up before sunrise to head to the market (“talat”). Afterwards, they all around the nearby park’s lake as the day begins. In this photograph, you see a man fishing in the lake, basking in the early morning light.
